POEM: "Almost A Postcard"

Almost A Postcard

Where aggression rules
big city men push ahead

bravado is what fuels them
the little people are astounded

the country girls are moving
suzhi suzhi look at her hands

babies are sold in the provinces
big protests in the north-west

sunrise is a gentle promise
everyday comes the river tide

the terror of one child failing
30,000 fingers lost in a year

the hard city can protect us
the way cars protect bicycles

the small collapses into big
the sun sets fast into the sea

(tongues ever spoke like eyes
everyone would be undone)
