Pathos: The Poem
The pestering mouth
a table across the way
the hurt eyes are filling
her head is on my breast
prolepsis? I don't know
but wait my gentle reader
the busboy drops the dishes
the lamp is 3000 drachmae
I am sure this was my table
she was the love of my life.

The canny reader will know that the lamp refers to the one that belonged to the philosopher Epictetus, bought for a fortune after his death by an admirer. Not that this is going to illuminate much.
